The second season begins by exploring Sauron's backstory. We learn of his betrayal by Adar and observe his transformation from Jack Lowden to Charlie Vickers. Vickers infuses the series with an exhilarating sense of menace. His unsettling smile after swearing allegiance to Adar is particularly chilling. When Sauron seeks to manipulate Celebrimbor, viewers instinctively shout, "Do not trust this man! Do not let him into your city!" Sauron's formidable presence adds a sense of urgency to the plot.
