Based on a True Story follows Ava and Nathan Bartlett, a married couple who are struggling financially and expecting their first child. Nathan is a former tennis player who was let go by the club where he had been coaching for the previous 20 years. Ava is a real estate agent who has made no sales. When it rains, it pours till help arrives from the storm. Matt, a charming plumber, enters their lives. As a true crime buff, Ava begins to suspect about the good guy/Godsend plumber.
