Faceless 2022

Concept: The main purpose of these abstract paintings is to provoke a reflection within the viewers about our surroundings, with the concept of extraterrestrial life in mind. As humans, we identify with other people through the emotions expressed on their faces, regardless of language or creed. We also tend to anthropomorphize most abstract notions in order to make them more relatable and understandable. Yet, we have no idea what life beyond what we know could look like. Accordingly, these portraits, although resembling human form, are stripped of their humanity through their lack of emotion. The abstract form creates an undefinable emotional experience as the viewer is forced to abandon what they know, and instead explore the possibilities of what may be.
